Class Happenings for the week of April 18:
In math class this week, students will be finding part of a set, constructing mixed numbers, and adding/subtracting fractions.
Please keep encouraging your child to study their multiplication facts if they are not scoring a 90 or better on their daily drill quizzes. Students now have 4 minutes to complete the drill. The ultimate goal is to score a 100 in 2 minutes or less.
Timed drill quizzes for a grade are now a regular part of our math lessons on Friday.
Don't forget that on Thursday, May 12th, a multiplication quiz will be given to every student. It will consist of 100 basic multiplication facts. Students will have 10 minutes to complete the quiz. If they score a 98 or higher, they will participate in a movie afternoon the next day, Friday, May 13th. Students who do not score 98 or higher will spend the movie time being tutored in multiplication in a separate room.
Please spend as much time as possible preparing your child for this quiz if they are still struggling with their facts.
This week in our reading textbooks, students will be reading about Uncle Jed's experiences during the Great Depression in the story Uncle Jed's Barber Shop. Though there will not be a comprehension test on this story, there will be other activities that the students will complete in relation to the story.
Homework for this week:
Monday- Math: Workbook pg. 149.
Science: Study for plant re-test
**NO spelling contract or test will be given this week.
Tuesday - Math: Workbook pg. 150
Thursday - NONE
|
Reminders:
Progress reports will come home on Wednesday, April 20.
*****Please be sure to check your child’s bookbag for graded papers. Students will be receiving graded papers to take home nearly every day. Sometimes these papers can get mixed in with other papers used daily in class. These papers do not need to be returned to school after they have been reviewed. Please note that some papers will not have grades on them. Papers with no grade are practice pages that the students complete on a daily basis in the morning and at the beginning of each math lesson.
|
Science Corner:
A re-test of plant concepts will be given on Tuesday, April 19th. Please encourage your child to keep studying the biome packet and plant study guide that went home last week.
|
Wish List:
Wide-ruled notebook paper
|
Projects:
No Probe notebook topic will be given this week. Probe notebook topics will resume after Easter break.
If you would like for your child to receive extra credit in Religion, they may complete an extra Probe notebook assignment on Easter (as it relates to Jesus). This extra assignment should be turned in before school dismisses for Easter break.
Please encourage your child to turn this assignment in each Friday. If the assignment is not turned in on time, there is a 5 point penalty with each day that it is late (with a maximum of 15 points off).
