"FAITH IN EDUCATION"

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
JANUARY 31 - FEBRUARY 5, 2010

Theme for this year: "Dividends for Life"

Sunday 1/31: Our Parish
Students will lead the Mass as greeters, readers, altar servers and the "Testifiers" Children’s Choir.
**The church will provide the ushers.
All families are invited to attend with your student in their St Ann uniform.
After Mass, we will have an Open House for prospective families from the church. The Open House will be in the church bulletin two weeks prior to the Open House.

Monday 2/1: Our Community
We will focus on our community by helping the local homeless shelter. We will let families know that we will be collecting coats, blankets and men’s clothing as well as men’s toiletry items for the local shelter. A specific list will go home w/ students two weeks prior to the event. Each class will make a card to go along w/ the items to be given to the shelter. The card will let those less fortunate know that we are thinking about them and are blessed to be able to help them, etc.

Tuesday 2/2: Our Students
Mr. Bunting will coordinate an ecumenical service, inviting the priests and pastors from our student’s churches other than St. Ann.
We will also present an "Alumni of the Year" award at Mass.
*Children in grades K-8 will present Father Tom w/ portraits and poems. http://www.dioceseofraleigh.org/how/vocations/yfp/
Students will have a game and movie day. Students will be allowed to bring in the game of their choice (non-electronic) to play w/ classmates. All "lessons" that day will be done in "game form". For example, students can create a game to help study for an upcoming science test. They can play "Jeopardy" to brush up on Language Arts skills, etc. In older grades, students can have a major part in creating the games to be played through-out the day. Games (especially for older children) can be counted as class participation as well. The idea is to have a day of fun w/out wasting a day of academics.
Students can all wear their PE uniforms on Tuesday so that they can participate in outdoor games as well like grade level vs. grade level relay races, etc.

Wednesday 2/3: Our Nation
The 82nd Airborne chorus will perform at 2:00 on Wed., Feb 3rd. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the show!
The students will make cards for the local VA Nursing Home in appreciation for their service to our country.
Military Mom's and Dad's will be invited to come and have lunch w/ their student on this day as well. They will be invited to bring in a "picnic" lunch/fast food and picnic w/ their student during their regular lunch time. This is a way to make military kids feel appreciated for all that they do while their parents serve our country. Lunch times/schedules will go home w/ the invitation two weeks prior to the event.

Thursday 2/4: Our Vocations
We will invite parents to come into the classroom of their child to talk about their "vocation"/profession. Parents can also make a short presentation. They can also bring in special items from work or a short activity as well. An invitation will go home w/ the students two weeks before the event. ALL TEACHERS will keep the RSVP's and schedule their parents at a time that works best for their classrooms.

Friday 2/5: Our Faculty and Staff
Generally PTO takes the lead on this to do something nice for the teachers and staff. Last year they provided a breakfast and coverage for teachers to sit down and eat for about 20 minutes.
Students, Faculty and Staff are dismissed at 12:30.
